MGG about MGG

For many years Thomas Alva Edison was credited with having presented the first incandescent electric lamp to the amazed American public in 1879. But already 25 years earlier in 1854 the German Heinrich Goebel was 'enlightened' for the first time. Probably neither of them was aware of the global significance these first lamps would have one day. It was a long way from the first short-lived lamps of those early stages to the ones available today. Not only do these lamps now have a longer lifetime and higher luminous intensity, miniaturization was also an important direction their development took.

MGG MICRO-GLÜHLAMPEN-GESELLSCHAFT was founded in Hamburg in the year of 1963. At that time most of the miniature lamps were still produced by experienced glass blowers. A growing demand for the small, high-class products made it obvious that the only future in question lay in extensive automation. For lack of suitable machines for production, MGG developed its own which later served as a basis for new developments. A high performance electrical laboratory followed so that today every required measurement, including shock and vibration tests, can be made with its corresponding documentation.

MGG currently produces more than 5,000 (!) different types of lamps ranging from 1 - 130 volts in sizes from T-1/4 (Ø max. 0.75mm) to T-3 1/4 (Ø max. 10mm) as well as point light lamps and projection lamps in optical quality. Furthermore there is a choice of sockets for solder free adaptation of lamps as well as colored silicone filter caps and various other accessories.

The most frequent applications comprise the following fields of technology: electrical/electronic industry, aviation/space, defense, medical, telecommunications, machine tooling and increasingly Infra-red (IR). On the other hand there are also consumer orientated areas e.g. the automotive industry. Beside the standard types shown in this catalog MGG produces projection lamps, lens-ended, -tube and special lamps of the highest precision meeting stringent demands.

Outstanding characteristics of MGG lamps are long life as well as shock and vibration resistance. Many lamps are tested to international norms and standards with MGG providing support documentation. These standards are for instance European Norm (EN), US-MIL-Specification (MS), Norme Française (NF), British Standards (BSI), DIN, IEC, ANSI etc.

Development and manufacturing of special lamps to customer specifications are important production segments in which minaturization becomes increasingly important. The lamps shown in this catalog follow this trend. They also combine high reliability and optimal usage with adequate performance parameters and effectiveness.

A new state-of-the-art computer system supported by a modern PC network controls production, material management, optimizes stock-keeping and production planning, actively supports customer relations, service and sales and guarantees that MGG will also be your competent partner in the future.
